China and the US are taking different approaches to digitize payment. China is moving quickly to launch its second generation digital payment, while the US is on its first. China will enjoy a first-mover advantage with CBDCs, but it does not guarantee the international demise of the dollar, as some may speculate. That said, complacency is ill-advised and digitizing the dollar is necessary to preserve its reign as the reserve currency.
