Will the Dollar be Toppled, Dethroned or Killed?
I believe that dedollarization is happening directly due to US sanctions and interest rate rises. That said, it is a long and slow process, and the dollar isn’t going to go away anytime soon!
Most articles on this topic will ask if the dollar will be “toppled, dethroned, or killed.” This is a “straw man” argument, demanding the answer “no.” This is the end of the story for many, but it shouldn’t be.
Ask the right question to get the right answer!
A much better question is: Can an underdog currency like the Chinese RMB or a BRICS currency be quite disruptive, even in small doses? The answer to that is a clear yes! For the best example, think of Saudi Arabia, now a BRICS nation selling oil in RMB. Now that’s disruptive!
